I added a pull quote at the bottom as this was typically used in music magazines to give the reader an idea of the article and make them intrigued so they would want to read it. I added the line underneath to follow the same rule as before under the title and sub-heading. I added the stars to again continue the style of the front cover and contents with the use of the star in the magazines logo.

I inserted the text of my article, starting with the drops cap so the reader knows where to begin reading and this is a known convention in magazines. I seperated the text by having the questions asked in bold and the artists replpy in italic. This made it more clear of what was being asked and what the answer was.

I added my original images according to my layouts previously decided in the planning. I then created the layout for the text in the article, by dimensioning the page to get even collumns as this is the main convention used in any magazine.

I added a sub-heading in capital letters to make it stand out and this was done in music magazines i have researched. I added the line underneath to show the end of the title and give the page a divide to make it more structured.

I then started by inserting the title, which is the artists name as the article is all about her.

I then added the page numbers, logo and the relase date as this was typically found in music magazines which i discovered from my real media artefacts.

I started by inserting the gradient background to continue the house style on the front cover and contents page.

I changed the main image to a male as this makes the magazine feature both genders so it isn't as biased.

To get rid of blank space alongside the contents i added images of stars used from the logo in the colour scheme colours as this fit with the style.

I then added the page numbers on top of the images, i had seen this done in one of my real media artefacts and thought it looked good so decided to incorporate it into my magazine. I also added the issue number of the magazine and the release date of the magazine in the top corner as this is always done in magazines as discovered in my research, and it also helped fill the space.

I added the images and a caption under the main image to show what was happening.

I then added the text which will link to an image of the artist featured on the front cover. This is typically done in music magazines to give the reader more information on the double page spread article and its page number.

I then included the website address for the magazine as this was typically done in music magazines to promote themselves.

I then added an image of a previous edition of the magazine to add to the subscription section and is done in all magazines to give the reader a look at a previous month of the magazine to get a feel of what it is like and if it's worth subscribing to.

I then added the POP review and subscription text as this was done in existing music magazines as it gives the reader more information.

I then added the page numbers and names included in the magazine.

I then began with inserting the text for the contents and addding the title and the line underneath to give it more definition and seperate it from the list of pages that will go underneath.

I added the box at the bottom to match the front cover and had seen it in music magazines i had researched.

I added the magazine logo in the common place on most music magazines in the top corner.

I started by adding the same gradient background as used on the front cover, to show house style.

I then added the circle and the text to make it stand out and make the reader intrigued so they would want to buy the magazine to find out.

I then added the cover story and the featured artists in the magazine. I had seen this done in my research of magazines and the stories are a typical convention.

I started to add the text for the main article, including the artists name and a pull quote. The alliteration in the headline makes it memorable and stand out. By writing 'exclusive' it gets the readers attention as they want to see the pictures and interview.

I then added the magazine release date and issue number as this is always seen on the front covers of magazines. I also added the barcode and price to fit with the conventions of a magazine.

I added text into the banners, to show the reader some features of the magazine.

I then added the black banners to the top and bottom as this is done in existing magazines and i can add information into the boxes.

I then added the logo, i made the star go behind the image as it makes the image the main focus.

I then added my main image, a close up of the artist, i did this as it was the most typically done on music magazines. I placed it in the centre as this makes it the main focus and draws attention.

I started with the gradient background as i felt this gave the pop genre feel and the purple is used in the colour scheme.

Final Logo and Colour Scheme

I have chosen this final logo as it uses colours from the colour scheme and the contrast in colours work and will draw attention to make it memorable. I feel the combination of colours in the scheme work well together and would stand out to the reader for the vibrant effect wanted by a pop magazine.

Logo Ideas

In my focus questionnaire i discovered that my target audience preferred the font 'arial black' therefore have used this font to create design ideas for my logo. By using arial black it makes it easy to read and clear to the audience as it is more bold. As well as it being sans serif it makes it seem more modern which will also relate to my target audience.

Here i have experimented with some of the effects that can be used to make the text stand out and look more appealing. I have decided that the colour fill is more effective and includes the vibrant colours that was asked for by my questionnaire results. Also by having the contrast of the different colours used for the text and image of a star it makes the logo stand out. I also like the colours used in the design top right, however would prefer if the text and image were embossed to make it stand out more.

Magazine Name

I have considered various names that would link to the genre of my magazine, being pop. However have decided that "POP" with an image of a star next to it will be my final magazine name. It is direct to the genre so is obvious to the reader what the magazine will be about. Also the star image will not only look good but has a subtle meaning of 'popstar' which is what the magazine will include. I feel this is a good magazine name as it will be memorable to my audience as it is short and catchy. Also with the use of onomatopoeia it will make it stand out.

Double Page Spread Layout Ideas

This design i feel is the best as it incorporates a balance between text and images. It fills the double page and has an unusual layout that would appeal to the target market.

This design was based on a double page spread in Q magazine. Although Q is a popular music magzine i dislike this layout as i think it's too boring and standard.

This design only includes two images and alot of space for text so it does not have the balance that was wanted by the target market, which i discovered in my questionnaire.

This design is very image based, therefore i feel it does not have the right balance and needs more text for it to appeal to my audience. Although the collage of images is a fun way of placing the images it could seem messy to the buyer.

This design includes alot of images along with text to build a balance for the audience. It includes key features that would usually be seen in a magazine in an unusual and quirky layout.

This design has the correct balance of text and images that i wanted, it is layed out in a structured and simple way which i think will appeal to my audience. I feel this is the best design as it includes features that would attract the buyer as well as filling the page.

Front Cover Layout Ideas

This design is very spacious, so would be focused more on the image used as the background. However from my questionnaire i discovered that the cover stories also attract the buyer, so three small stories would not be enough to catch the potential buyers attention and make them want to buy it.

I feel this design is unusual and would use a mixture of image and text to produce a good front cover. The image used as the background would be clearly visible in the centre without text blocking it as it would be put around the edges.

This design includes more features than the others and was based on a previous mixmag magazine front cover layout. I feel this is good as it gives space for the background image as well as including lots of space for text.

Product Placement

I have researched previously in my questinnaire at places in which my target audience purchase their magazines. This information along with my own knowledge shows that the majority of people purchase their magazines from a supermarket. This means people make an effort to go and get their magazines so would be willing to get other magazines if they were attracted to them in the shop. This means that this would be a perfect place to sell my magazine.

I also looked at music magazine sales and their publishers where i found that the most popular is IPC Media. IPC media produce over 85 iconic media brands, with print brands alone reaching almost two thirds of UK women and 44% of UK men. They produce one of the largest music magazines NME, so from the statistics it would be sensible to get my magazine published by this brand.

Q1. This shows that the simple font 'Arial Black' is most favoured so will be sure to include this in the design for my new magazine as it is also clear and easy to read.

Q2. For this question i asked what colours people would associate with a pop magazine. The responses indicated that many vibrant colours should be used so will take this into consideration when designing my magazine.

Q4. For this question i asked on what pop artists/bands they prefer. I got many different responses which varied from artists and bands. Such as JLS, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and The Saturdays. However the modal artist was Taylor Swift therefore will include her in my magazine.

Q5. This shows the equal amount of replies in what people would most like to see/read in a pop magazine. Therefore this is a big help in what i will be sure to include when creating my pop magazine.

Q6. This shows whether they'd prefer the issues of a magazine to correspond. It is very close percentages but most would not prefer the issues to correspond, this will play a part when deciding on the contents of my magazine.

Q7. This shows a mixed response on whether people want the contents to fill the entire page. But with 65% of people not wanting it to be entirely filled this will be more appropriate for my magazine.

Q8. This shows that 50% prefer the balance between text and images in an artist interview so will take this into consideration when creating my artist interview double page spread.

Q9. This shows the majority of people asked would be willing to pay £1.50 for a new pop magazine therefore this will help in deciding the final price for my magazine.

Q10. For this question if the person responded 'No' to the previous question they were asked to state "what price between £1-£2 would you be willing to pay?" There were only 2 that chose this and both replied they'd be willing to pay £1 for a new pop magazine.

Q1. This shows that I asked an equal amount of males and females in my questionnaire, so my magazine will be aimed at both genders.

Q2. This shows that the most popular age range is 15-18 year olds so this will be my target market when doing my magazine.

Q3. This shows that pop is the most well-liked genre of music having an area of 35%, therefore I will be doing a pop magazine.

Q4. For this question I asked for them to specify who their favourite artist was. This gave a mixed result, ranging from favourite artists such as Taylor Swift and Ne-Yo to bands such as Arctic Monkeys and JLS.

Q11. This shows that 51% of people buy music magazines in the shop due to the stories included inside. Therefore I will put a lot of effort into the cover lines to attract the buyers.

Q12. This shows that all the categories are expected in a music magazine. As a result they will all be included in my music magazine, apart from clothing as it was not as popular.

Q13. For this question I asked whether they kept up with music trends and why, where I got a mixture of responses. Some said no and this was mainly because they didn’t really care, whereas those who said yes enjoyed being up to date and having the latest music.
